2015 by Olaf Val based on code by Thomas Wappler
The motif of "DISPL4Y Alphabet" combines three levels of the symbolic representations. Starting from single abstract pixels, patterns are generated, which are recognized as numeric codes, in order finally to be interpreted as simple letters of the alphabet. In every day life LED-displays provides provide clear-cut information. This expectation is deliberately irritated by the fact that the observation does not reveal any text but rather draws attention on structures such as the technical construction and the rules of the sign systems it self. This leads to a deconstruction of the authority of digital displays, which usually provide us with exact location, time and temperature data. There is a deconstruction in favor of an inquiring viewing and a awareness of the perception of digital artefacts.
